Leo holds Obiwey on a balcony beneath a starry city sky.

A story by Jason Samadhi

Obiwey: Heart of
the City

A sensitive boy. A little robot.
A different way to listen.

In a city that can feel too loud, Leo meets a small robot who asks first, listens visibly, and respects a quiet no.

An ordinary city. An extraordinary friendship.

01 / THE STORY

For the ones who
notice everything.

Leo notices the small things: rain on a balcony, a change in someone’s voice, the space a little quiet can make. Sometimes, the city feels like too much.

Then a small robot arrives. Obiwey doesn’t assume it knows what Leo needs. It asks. Together, they discover how friendship, family, and everyday choices can make room for a different kind of listening.

02 / LISTENING & CHOICE

Kind technology
starts with asking.

What could technology feel like if it respected your choice? In Obiwey’s world, the answer begins with small, visible acts of care.

01

Ask first.

Listening, recording, and sharing each need a choice. A yes is never assumed.

02

Show listening.

People should be able to tell when technology is listening—and when it isn’t.

03

Respect a no.

Off means off. You can stop, ask for space, or change your mind.

VISIBLE, NOT HIDDEN

A little light.
A clear meaning.

And quiet means quiet. In Quiet mode, Obiwey cannot hear. Listening is a choice, not the default.

03 / FOR THE GROWN-UPS

A story to share.
Room to talk.

The important moments happen around a kitchen table, on the way to school, or beside someone who needs a little space.

For parents & caregivers

A way into conversations about big feelings, family privacy, and what it means to listen without rushing to fix.

For educators & librarians

A story to read and discuss: asking permission, respecting boundaries, and making space for everyone—including those who choose to pass.

Listening belongs to all of us.

FROM THE BOOK’S APPENDIX

Small invitations.
Always your choice.

Two optional practices from the story. Try them, change them, or leave them. Sharing is never required.

Things I Notice

Find a quiet moment. Notice small, real details around you. Write three to five things you notice, as Leo does in his sketchbook. Add a feeling only if you want to.

One Minute to Arrive

Choose a quiet minute. Notice a color, a shape, and a sound. Share only if you want. Passing is welcome, and there is no need to fill the silence.

Educational, not medical. If a child feels unsafe or overwhelmed, pause and seek support from a trusted adult.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Jason Samadhi

Growing up highly sensitive, Jason often felt the world was too loud and too much. He wrote Obiwey as the story he wished he’d had: one that makes room for noticing, choice, and being heard.
